The Bruker S2 POLAR is a new benchtop EDXRF analyser for quality control in the petrochemicals industry. It measures multiple elements simultaneously, including sulfur monitoring, Cl for corrosion prevention and P for residue build-up.
EDXRF vs WDXRF
The S2 POLAR uses polarised EDXRF (Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence) for reliable, multi-element analysis. Traditionally WDXRF (Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence) is used for quality control in the petrochemical industry. The S2 POLAR is less expensive while still delivering the same level of analytical precision.
Petrochemical Quality Control
The S2 POLAR is designed specifically for the petrochemical industry. Its performance is optimised to meet the needs of:
- Refineries
- Downstream supply chain:
- Pipelines
- Oil terminals
- Petrol stations
- Oil manufacturers and blenders
- Edible and palm oils
As a multi-element analyser, the S2 POLAR does the job of several single-element analysers. Multiple elements are measured simultaneously, including:
- Ultra-Low Sulfur (ULS) content
- Sub-ppm detection for gasoline, kerosene and diesel
- Chlorine for corrosion prevention
- Phosphorus for residue build-up
- Additives in lubricating oils eg magnesium, calcium, zinc, molybdenum
The performance for multi-element analysis of virtually all petrochemical products in a compact benchtop instrument makes the S2 POLAR the perfect choice for refineries, petrochemical producers, and oil manufacturers. Its excellent precision enables the analysis of ULS fuels, and quality control of additives in oils. With the S2 POLAR, Bruker further extends its strong commitment to XRF applications in the petrochemical industry.

Compliance
The S2 POLAR not only meets the standards of various international norms and regulations, it exceeds them to future-proof the system for years to come.
Analytical performance is compliant with all relevant ASTM, DIN, IP, JIS, and ISO norms. Factory calibrated application packages are available for ASTM norms D7220, D4294, D6481 and D7751.
To ensure maximum uptime, components are protected by Bruker’s SampleCare features. This ensures the instrument will not be damaged by any liquid leakage or spills.
