mIRage IR Microscope: New Partnership with Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp

We’re proud to announce a new partnership with Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp as their official distributor in the UK, Ireland and Nordic region. Their mIRage IR microscope uses a proprietary O-PTIR technique to break the IR diffraction limit and overcome the greatest problems of IR spectroscopy.

Blue Scientific is the official distributor for Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp in the UK, Ireland and Nordic region (Norway, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark). For more information or quotes, please get in touch.

PhotoThermal Mirage IR Microscope

mIRage IR Microscope

mIRage changes the field of IR spectroscopy by overcoming its two greatest problems: poor resolution and demanding sample preparation.

With the mIRage IR microscope you can:

  • Achieve sub-micron spatial resolution
  • Measure thick samples in reflection mode
    • Without the contact limitations of ATR
    • No dispersive artifacts

Spatial Resolution

Perform IR imaging and spectroscopy with a spatial resolution improvement of over 20x. mIRage uses photothermal IR spectroscopy (PTIR) to acquire transmission quality FTIR spectra, even in reflection mode.

Measure Thick Samples

PTIR also overcomes another key limitation of IR microscopy: the inability to analyse thick samples. Without the contact limitations of ATR, this opens up a whole range of new applications.

This also means that sample preparation is less demanding, so results can be acquired faster, with lower costs.

Having been personally involved with some of the major advances in IR over the last 40 years, I believe that photothermal IR spectroscopy via the Mirage product might very well be the biggest advance in the field of IR that I’ve seen in my lifetime. I believe that this will substantially expand the scope of problems that can be addressed by IR spectroscopy.
Dr. Curt Marcott, former Research Fellow at P&G and world-renowned expert in IR spectroscopy

Breaking the IR Diffraction Limit

mIRage overcomes the IR diffraction limit by combining a pulsed, tunable laser with a proprietary optical technique that measures the sample’s photothermal response. The system is fast and easy to use. Results can be correlated to industry standard FTIR databases.
