For the first time, you can now perform simultaneous IR and Raman on the same spot, using the mIRage from Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp. This is a world first that opens up a whole new range of research possibilities.
Submicron Infrared and Raman Microscopy
Simultaneous IR and Raman (IR-Raman) microscopy is now possible – a world first! The mIRage IR microscope from Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp is a unique dual-modality platform that combines the advantages of O-PTIR with Raman microscopy, with simultaneous detection via a visible probe laser.
You can now collect infrared and Raman data from the same spot, at the same time and with the same resolution:
- Spectra
- Line scans
- 2D maps
Dr Mustafa Kansiz, Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp, said “Combined Raman microscopy and IR microscopy… has never been achieved on the same spot, at the same time, with the same resolution”
How it Works
IR-Raman is a non-contact method that uses a collinear visible-light source to measure your sample with sub-micron spatial resolution. Data is acquired from the same spot, at the same time, with the exact same resolution:
New Applications
This unlocks a whole range of new possibilities in fields such as:
- Defect and failure analysis
- Polymers
- Materials science
- Life science
- Pharmaceuticals
- Forensics
Below are just two examples; for more information on how this technique can be used in your area of research, please get in touch.
Example: Red Blood Cells
In this example, IR and Raman spectra were collected from a red blood cell (~500 nm resolution). First, a 70 x 70 µm region was selected from the optical image for Raman imaging. A single blood cell was then selected for further analysis.
Example: Polymers and Plastics
A film of polyethene terephthalate (PET) was analysed using simultaneous O-PTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The spectra were acquired from the same spatially resolved, sub-micron spot:
