Micro-XRF in Forensics Webinar 20/09/17
Micro-XRF is in many ways ideally suited to forensic analysis. Join Bruker for a live webinar on Wednesday 20th September 2017 about how to analysis gun shot residue and small particles with the M4 TORNADO.

Micro-XRF in Forensics
Micro-XRF is an ideal analytical tool for studying forensic samples:
- Scan large areas
- Simultaneous information on multiple elements, right down to trace element level
- Analyse under ambient conditions
- Non-destructive
The webinar will focus on two common forensics applications: Shooting distance determination and small particle analysis, with the example of glass fragments.

Shooting Distance Determination
With regards to micro-XRF, shooting distance determination is a purely qualitative analysis. The speakers will discuss measurement parameters to attain useful results in a reasonable time, and the data mining tools in the software for offline analysis.
Small Particle Analysis
Glass shard analysis can be quantitative or in a semi-quantitative according to ASTM E2926. However, there are several important aspects; Above all the information depth of the various elements of the glass can impede both quantitative and semi-quantitative analysis. This is especially relevant to small particles, which can have intricate shapes that make it difficult to identify a good measurement position. The best approach is to first assess small shards with an area scan.
At the end of the webinar there will be a Q&A session giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
