SCANDEM 2018
This is an annual conference organised by SCANDEM, a microscopy organisation in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. It focusses on microscopy technology, specimen preparation techniques and applications in materials and life sciences. SCANDEM arranges events, courses and workshops to support microscopy knowledge and expertise in Scandinavia.
This year’s conference will cover these nanoscale imaging research topics:
- In Situ Electron Microscopy
- Electron Spectroscopy
- X-ray Microscopy
- Scanning Probe Microscopy
- Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy
- Image and Data Analysis
The meeting provides an interdisciplinary environment for addressing key fundamental questions at the interface between physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and engineering, with an aim to understand materials at the nanometer scale.
Pre-Conference Workshops
We’ll be hosting several workshops at SCANDEM 2018 on Monday 25th June 2018, the first day of the conference:
- High speed TEM Camera Workshop – Overview of new camera technology, with the live demonstrations.
- Digital Micrograph Scripting Workshop – An introduction to scripting in Gatan Microscopy Suite software for electron microscopes.
- Micro-XRF Workshop – Elemental analysis & mapping, with live demonstrations.
The workshops are free to attend but spaces are limited. Please register to reserve your place, via the links above.

Venue
The Technical University of Denmark is 15km north of Copenhagen, and is easily accessible by public transport from the city.
The main campus is home to the Centre for Electron Nanoscopy, which has a number of high-end electron microscopes including dedicated EBSD and TKD instruments, as well as probe and image corrected transmission electron microscopes with in-situ gas treatment capabilities. The meeting celebrates the 10 year anniversary of the centre.
